Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups red lentils
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 14 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon each turmeric, cumin, coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • 1 tsp / 2 chilies cumin seeds, dried chilies for tadka
  • 1 tablespoon each garlic and ginger, minced

Instructions

  1. 1.Simmer rinsed lentils with turmeric in water until soft and creamy, 20 minutes.
  2. 2.Sauté onion in ghee until deeply golden; add garlic, ginger, tomatoes, and spices.
  3. 3.Combine lentils with onion mixture; simmer 10 minutes.
  4. 4.Make tadka: sizzle cumin seeds and chilies in ghee and pour over daal.
